Product Applications
Frequently Asked Questions Regarding HDMI Cables:
What is an HDMI cable?
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a compact audio/video interface standard used for equipment such as high definition television and home theater systems. HDMI is constructed of 19 wires wrapped in a single compact cable to transmit high bandwidth all digital signals to audio and video components. The main benefit of HDMI is that it supports standard, enhanced, or high-definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. HDMI cables can deliver up to a 1080p picture quality which is the best quality in the industry. If you want to experience the best picture quality your television has to offer than HDMI cables are the way to go.
What is the negative aspect of HDMI cables?
The biggest weakness of HDMI cables is that you are limited in signal distance. If you have an application over 50ft you will surely loose signal quality and an HDMI extender or signal booster will be required. HDMI is also backward compatible with DVI (Digital Visual Interface). Meaning you can use HDMI cables to attach to DVI equipped products.
What is the difference between HDMI 1.3 and HDMI 1.3a, or 1.3b?
For consumers, there is no difference between HDMI version 1.3 and 1.3a or 1.3b. These minor revisions to the specification typically relate to manufacturing or testing issues and do not impact features or functionality. In addition, HDMI Licensing, LLC is actively working with manufacturers to reduce confusion for consumers by de-emphasizing version numbers and focusing instead on product features and functionality.
What are the advantages of HDMI over existing analog video interfaces such as composite, S-Video, and Component video?
HDMI is an all-digital interface, so there are no analog-to-digital conversions like in analog interfaces. This helps HDMI to provide a good audio and video quality. The difference is even more noticeable at higher resolutions like 1080p. Digital video will be sharper than component, and eliminates the softness and ghosting effect found in component. With HDMI, there is also one cable doing it all. So you don’t have to worry about managing numerous separate cables or trying to figure out how to hide a bunch of unwanted extra cables.
Why do some HDMI cables cost a lot and some so little?
Most people will say there is not a difference between an expensive HDMI cable and a generic low cost HDMI cable. But the truth is that purchasing the most expensive HDMI cable on the market will not make a difference to the picture quality on your TV. HDMI is an engineered based standard so if you buy a cable that is certified to HDMI you will have success. The part of an HDMI cable that is not standard is the outside construction. Some cables are built better, with stronger jackets and high quality molding to withstand time, pulling, and bending. At CableGiant all our HDMI cables are certified to the newest HDMI standard, while offering a strong outside jacket with molded connectors for long lasting use.
